Lake Chala Day Trip

Lake Chala is a crater lake in a caldera on the borders of Tanzania and Kenya on the eastern edge of Mount Kilimanjaro, an hour’s drive from Moshi town and 8 km north of Taveta. Depending on the time of year, it ranges in colour from deep blue to turquoise and green and is surrounded by a 100 meter high crater rim.

Having reached the Lake, with a guide, you will descend for 30 minutes down into the crater, on foot, to discover the refreshing and rewarding water that awaits you. It is then completely up to you how long you want to spend down at the lake, either swimming or simply taking in the beautiful scenery that surrounds you.

Having then made the hike back up to the picnic area and restaurant, you will see the delicious bbq feast that has been prepared for you. Depending on your taste buds, or dietary requirements, you will be able to specify the type of food that you would like prior to going on the trip. You now have the choice of heading back to Moshi or spending the night and therefore a few more hours in this simply perfect spot.
